This is really so relaxing. You can use it either with batteries or you can just plug it up. I don't have a plug close to my bed so I just use batteries in it. It takes four double A batteries. It also comes with a cord so you can connect your phone or MP3 or Ipod up to it and listen to music on it while you watch the wave light. It is so pretty and I love to lay in bed and fall asleep to it. It is so great paired up with a white noise and it has an automatic shut off after an hour of it in use.
